Making my own Lipstick

I have a passion for makeup and I am always looking to try new things. Lately I have been curious about trying some new lips colors, which include purple, grey, blue, and black. I have seen many makeup artists trying out this new trend and I love it. These are not everyday colors, more of a fun night out, adventurous feeling, once in a while thing.  Being a college student on a budget I can’t go out to Sephora and purchase theses colors just to see if I like them. So with this in mind I knew it was time for a Pinterest project.

I looked up online how to make my own lipstick and I found a couple of different ways. I chose to make mine using crayons. Yes, the same ones you colored with in elementary school. It was really simple. You melt the crayon, add the Vaseline (amount depending on what look you’re going for) and pour into small containers. After letting them cool I tried them out and to my surprise it actually worked. Now I have six new colors to add to my collection and I am looking forward to creating more.

The Little Brother

Today is my brother, Caden’s 12th birthday!

Unfortunately I am unable to be there to celebrate with the family. Earlier I called and talked to him as he opened the card I sent him, missing his birthday is hard. This is the first birthday of his that I have ever missed.

There is a nine year age gap between the two of us but that doesn't seem to get in the way. We play video games together, like Clash of Clans and Fusion Frenzy. And we also bake treats in the kitchen, he is my partner in crime.

It has been a blessing to see him grow up. I can remember when my sister and I found out we were going to get a baby brother. I remember bringing him home for the first time. I could go on forever with everything I remember and share all the amazing memories but that would take too long. So I will spare all of you, and just brag a little.

Caden is talented and smart, funny and strong- minded. I am so proud of the person he is becoming. I know that someday everyone will know me as Caden’s sister and I can’t wait.

I love you Caden more than you can ever say. Have a great birthday Bud. I miss you, see you soon.

A Trip Back to the West Side

The main reason for Susie and me to head back west was to have lunch with a PR Manager at Microsoft. With some nerves we headed in and proceeded to chat with her, learning a lot of information on how to transition to the workplace after college. Meeting with her was fun but after the meeting is when the real fun began.

Our original plan was to head to Seattle but after some thought Bellevue sounded to be a better idea. We started at Sephora. Looking though the gift sets and playing with the different lipsticks, blushes and going through the perfume. That store is like a treasure hunt, a very very expensive treasure hunt. Lucky for us we each had a 20% off coupon. And I got more free samples than what I actually purchased. Then we stopped at Forever 21 to look through some clearance and get some great deals a sweater and vest. A quick look in MAC (no purchase for me) and then a stop in lush for a face mask.

With our bags full and our tummies not, it was time to head for some dinner, one of our favorite restaurants was just outside the mall. The Cheesecake Factory. After a delicious meal we started our two hour drive back home.

We stopped in North Bend for gas and to get a CD to listen on our drive. In North Bend there is not many places to get a CD. Actually there was only one place that sold CDs and that was Safeway. And that only included one shelf of $5 CDs. We chose a blast from the past, Christina Aguilera’s Stripped album.  To the end the night we sang our way home and laughed and talked.

It’s times like these when I realize even though Susie grew up in Norway and I grew up in the U.S. we were so alike. Some color boomboxes, taste in music and some interests. Yes we are different in ways but alike in so many. It is probably due to our princess genes.
It was nice to head back west and see familiar sites.

Halloween Costume

Halloween has never been one of my favorite holidays but I do enjoy dressing up. This year I had limited resources due to being away at college, so I had to be creative. I had a black and white leopard print dress in my closet, paired it with some ears and wallah I was a leopard.  A simple costume but it would suffice.

Lately I have been playing around a lot with makeup and what better time to do something fun than Halloween. So after a couple of different trial and error attempts I came up with a leopard print look to turn a simple costume into something fun. Here are some photos of the final costume and makeup.
